School is out!!!!

To celebrate my favorite day of the year: Last Day of School
and the beginning of the No Schedule Season, I went back to the garage and married a boring cork board

to a leftover thingy....

and the results make me as happy as not having to get up early in the morning!

Never enough Summer....

We know that many of you are getting into the Fall colors already, but around here in sunny California, we stretch the Summer as much as we can....

In pursuit of an "Eternal Summer" feeling we came up with our "Framed Shells Specimen" using some leftover material we had in the garage... This is what we started with:

A chunky rustic wood frame
A piece of beadboard
Some taupe paint
Shells
Grunged Tags
Stamps

We started by cutting the beadboard to fit the opening of the frame.
A coat of the taupe color, makes a great contrast against the white of the frame, but of course, any color could be used!

While it dried, we researched the scientific name of the shells we were using and stamped those names and a # to each one of the gift tags.

Once the paint was dried, we framed the beadboard using a couple of nails on the back, attached a sawtooth and glued the shells to the front....

This is how it looked leaning on the fireplace mantle...

It was so simple and fast, that we made a companion...

Ta da!!!
They turned out with enough browns to look good around the shades of the inevitable Fall!

We hope we inspired you to make your own, but if you are not up to it and you live in our area...these cuties will be for sale at our next show: September 11th at the La Maison Rustique in Temecula, CA (more info later on that!)

What's in a name?

Some call it "Robin Egg Blue"

...or "Tiffany Blue"...

...or "Aqua", its Latin name...

Green Blue when trying to describe it....

Around here, at the beach, many call it Sea Green...

...and depending on the shade, even Turquoise.

We just call it our favorite color of the Season and we are totally hooked!!

What color is your heart painted this Summer Season?...

PS: Remember you still have time to enter our July Giveaway...just scroll down a couple of posts and you'll find directions to enter it.

This week we are loving...

...the end of June...
...the perfect weather and...
...the little signs that prove that Summer is finally here...

...Shells inside the house...

...and out....

No school, no homework, no schedules...(for the most part)
and many trips to the beach...

the fulfillment of the promise of the earlier months,
and with as yet no sign to remind one
that its fresh young beauty will ever fade"

Roses and Pumpkins...

I just couldn't wait!! With all the stores and magazines pushing the fall decor, I went ahead and decorated my house with all my pumpkins and orange and brown candles even though the weather hasn't changed much yet. But , much to my surprise, my rose bushes started blooming again and I felt bad not displaying little rose nosegays all over the house.

I found myself debating between roses and pumpkins....

Then I remember reading: "Come September, the many glories of Autumn and the pleasures of Summer are with us to enjoy simultaneously"

I decided that I was not the only with this dilemma, someone actually has written something about the subject, and I learned that one pleasure doesn't have to take away from another.

Now I keep some roses very close, even by my kitchen sink,
to help me remember the wonderful summer we had, while
the pumpkins help me dream of soon to be here chilly nights
by the fire and pumpkin pie!
