Saving the best...

for Clara!

Remember my Altered People project?
Well, I didn't show you this piece before...

because I saved it for my Sister
and didn't want to ruin the surprise...

She received it today
and she says she likes it...

Aren't they just beautiful girls?
The one on the right actually
looks like Clara when she was a little girl,
that's why when I saw it,
I knew she was meant for my sister!

She decorates for Halloween
(she is not like me!)
and I think the girls will feel perfectly at home there!


This week I will photograph her decor and share it with you,
just in case you need some Vintage Inspiration,

White Wednesday

A little bird told me...

it's time to work on Halloween!
Yikes!

Not much black and orange on my work table...
but I found some
dictionary pages..
a couple of crows...
some vintage trims...

and of course some glitter...

I think these vintage photograph holders
are liking their new look.
Closed...

and open...

And I love the fact that they are mostly white,
so I can share them with all the White Wednesday Girls!

Seasons...

I seem to have trouble changing my seasonal decor.
My home has a summery look all year round,
whites,
pale blues
and hints of yellow here and there.

The occasional pumpkin is displayed for a few days
and
for about 3 weeks each year
the seashells around the house
share their space with the Christmas decorations,
but that is as far as I go.

I'm not a Fall person,
that means I have to dig down
in order to come up with some Fall decorations for my space at Country Roads.
This week will be dedicated to that, I promise....

Winter is an etching,
spring a watercolor,
summer an oil painting
and autumn a mosaic of them all.

Wake up and...

make the roses!

We received lots of mail yesterday asking for the tutorial of our paper roses so Ladies, grab your latte and follow us to the work table...

We start with a pile of stained coffee filters...we drink instant coffee so we hand stain each filter but you can use the used coffee filters out of your coffee machine...(let them dry and get rid of the coffee first!)

Depending on how full you want your rose to be, you can work with one or two filters at the time.
Fold it in half:

From one end, start wrapping the paper, not too tight...

all the way to the end...

The side from where you are holding your rose, will look like this:

We wrap an easy to twist wire around the end....

and while we watch some T.V...

we play with each petal, shaping them like the real ones ...

Once we have made a few roses, we form our bouquet.
This is a picture of the back...

You can cover the stems with some vintage binding, but we love the contrast between the vintage look of the roses and the silver wire...

Roses and Pumpkins...

I just couldn't wait!! With all the stores and magazines pushing the fall decor, I went ahead and decorated my house with all my pumpkins and orange and brown candles even though the weather hasn't changed much yet. But , much to my surprise, my rose bushes started blooming again and I felt bad not displaying little rose nosegays all over the house.

I found myself debating between roses and pumpkins....

Then I remember reading: "Come September, the many glories of Autumn and the pleasures of Summer are with us to enjoy simultaneously"

I decided that I was not the only with this dilemma, someone actually has written something about the subject, and I learned that one pleasure doesn't have to take away from another.

Now I keep some roses very close, even by my kitchen sink,

to help me remember the wonderful summer we had, while

the pumpkins help me dream of soon to be here chilly nights

by the fire and pumpkin pie!
