Thank you, Janet!!! We adore our wands... and the way the rest of the family look at us every time we shake them in front of the washer machine waiting for some "laundry magic" to happen!!
Welcome! While looking at some pictures from our trip to China, I found some shadows that I had not noticed before....
Shadows at the Summer Palace....
Shadows in the little town of Suzhou...
and some shadows at the magnificent Wall of China...
Since I started participating in Shadow Shot Sunday, hosted by Hey Harriet!, I started to look at objects and pictures! a little different...you might want to give it a try...it's fun!
Friday is here and the excitement of the weekend puts us in a "yellow mood"...
Why yellow?..
Because...
Yellow shines with optimism, enlightenment and happiness ,carrying the promise of a positive future.
Yellow encourages communication and sparks creative thoughts....activates the memory and stimulates the nervous system. Seriously!!! And if all those were not good enough reasons to be in a yellow mood...
yellow looks fab mixed with whites, blacks, grays and blues so it wasn't hard to find it in our own homes....
We found it on a corner chandelier....
and on the outdoor candelabra...
...the mismatched chairs around the kitchen table...
and on peeling frames and oil paintings....
We found it on comfy pillows...
and under a glass cloche...
Yes, this is a Yellow Mellow Friday, full of wonderful possibilities... full of good things to come just like the yellow pretties we found inside the "Holiday's Cabinet" where little props wait patiently to be displayed once again....
May your weekend be happy and exciting... and each hour a colorful one! Clara & Marcela
We know that many of you are getting into the Fall colors already, but around here in sunny California, we stretch the Summer as much as we can....
In pursuit of an "Eternal Summer" feeling we came up with our "Framed Shells Specimen" using some leftover material we had in the garage... This is what we started with:
A chunky rustic wood frame A piece of beadboard Some taupe paint Shells Grunged Tags Stamps
We started by cutting the beadboard to fit the opening of the frame. A coat of the taupe color, makes a great contrast against the white of the frame, but of course, any color could be used!
While it dried, we researched the scientific name of the shells we were using and stamped those names and a # to each one of the gift tags.
Once the paint was dried, we framed the beadboard using a couple of nails on the back, attached a sawtooth and glued the shells to the front....
This is how it looked leaning on the fireplace mantle...
It was so simple and fast, that we made a companion...
Ta da!!! They turned out with enough browns to look good around the shades of the inevitable Fall!
We hope we inspired you to make your own, but if you are not up to it and you live in our area...these cuties will be for sale at our next show: September 11th at the La Maison Rustique in Temecula, CA (more info later on that!)
Just wanted to show you a little bit of our beach town today... The last picture is our friend M's front door. Her house will be featured in the December issue of Romantic Homes...don't miss it! She has beautiful Americana and a great eye for display...you'll be inspired!
We woke up to a very strange weather today...gray skies, humid, a little rain here and there ...
An afternoon California sun fighting desperately to make his daily appearance, gave us some interesting shadows of the altered pieces we've been working on...
We shot them right on time...a few moments later, our California sun lost its battle....
We share a passion for all things old, cottage and chic! After 10 years of retailing, we have closed our San Clemente store but you can find us now at our Space in Country Roads, Orange, CA (Space #135)
We are constantly shopping for vintage and antique treasures: ironstone, china, linens, accessories and small pieces of furniture that we can rescue and give a new life to, so don't be surprised to see at the Flea Market on Sundays mornings!
Thank you for visiting us,
Clara & Marcela
